Over 3 memorable nights from 22 – 25 August 2021, experience the rugged Queensland outback in the most picturesque and refined way when staying at the luxurious Mt Mulligan Lodge whilst on retreat.
The journey starts 160km north-west of Cairns in the heart of the Queensland Outback on a private 28,000 hectare cattle station where the newest Luxury Lodge of Australia awaits you. Emerging out of vast bushland and flanked by the majestic Mount Mulligan (Ngarrabullgan), your lodgings are nothing short of spectacular. Settle into outback life and enjoy a sundowner at the rustic bar with your new yogi friends and watch the escarpment come to life at dusk. Acoustic music to accompany your refreshment is the perfect complement to the magical scenery.
The beautiful and architecturally spectacular main pavilion is central to our diverse list of activities including daily yoga, meditation, breathwork, meals and simply relaxing by the infinity pool.
A swag of outback adventures have been curated to give you an extraordinary sense of place including, a fun-filled ATV adventure exploring bush tracks and boulder-strewn creeks to meet the bovine locals before setting up for a secluded country picnic. We also venture to the eerie abandoned township of Mount Mulligan and its infamous coal mine, discovering the fascinating history of the area. Kayaking, paddle board and nature walks are also on offer at your leisure.
Afternoons are for sunset drinks and evenings are spent enjoying meals which put a delicious twist on outback living. Our final evening together culminates in a celebration of Australian wine and native scenery during an indulgent 7 course degustation served by the weir, under a blanket of flickering stars, shadowed by the lofty Mt Mulligan. The menu is accompanied by Sommelier-paired wines from the reserve wine list.
You are invited to join this unique and enchanting exploration of the outback paired with wellness practices to take home and enhance your inner and outer health for years to come. Spaces are limited to only 9 rooms; so secure yours today.
Day One – Upon arrival at Mt Mulligan Lodge, a warming restorative yoga will take place to ensure you settle in to the outback environment. Furthermore, a welcome circle will allow you to set intentions for what’s to come over the coming days. After this friendly meet and greet with fellow yogis, you will be invited to sunset drinks. You’ll enjoy a sun-downer as you watch rugged Mount Mulligan escarpment come alive as the sun sets over the magical scenery. Following this, a sensational degustation dinner will be served to you. Each evening dinner will be a relaxed yet indulgent affair with produce showcasing the incredible offering of Far North Queensland and the menu putting a twist on outback-living.
On Day Two, wake up to a reviving yoga to set your mind and body for the day ahead. After yoga, enjoy an à la carte breakfast. Make sure you fuel your body because you’ll need energy for the first activity as an ATV Branch tour is for those who love adventure! Nothing beats getting behind the wheel of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) exploring boulder-strewn creeks, navigating outback tracks and meeting the bovine locals before resting at the picturesque south end of Mount Mulligan, known as The Branch, to delight in a morning tea of freshly made treats.
Once you’ve returned to the lodge, lunch will be served and accompanied by a range of iconic and boutique wines from the beverage menu. The menu is tailored to suit individual food preferences.
After lunch, there are options for a scenic helicopter flight (at an additional charge), kayaking, paddle boarding, nature walks and other leisure activities. Sunset drinks set the tone for the start of the evening.
After an epic day of activity and adventure, it’s time to relax for some sunset drinks by the fire pit and weir, a perfect way to take in all that outback serenity. This dinner is one to be remembered, an outback experience like no other. Sitting underneath the star-filled Milky Way and having your dinner cooked in front of you over the fire pit. After dinner, take part in our magical stargazing experience. As darkness falls, the outback sky turns a black velvet and a star-speckled blanket appears over the remote landscape. Our Outback Astronomy experience takes place just after sunset and takes guests on a celestial appreciation tour through the southern night sky. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the galaxy above using our resident telescope and learn about the varying constellations, stars and planets from an informative guide. This incredible day finishes with an evening meditation for deep rest.
Day Three begins with another awakening yoga, followed by an à la carte breakfast. Breakfast turns into a mindfulness session and two guided walks of varying fitness levels. After breaking a bit of a sweat, yoga nidra meditation takes place for 30 minutes following the hike. Lunch once again highlights some of the region’s best produce!
After lunch, you will head out on a Mt Mulligan old township and coal mine tour. Now a ghost town, the remains of the Mount Mulligan township are rich in history. Originally laid out in 1912 and abandoned in 1958, the once busy coal mining town now only consists of a cemetery, a single residence which was the former hospital, a chimney stack, and the electricity generator. The Mount Mulligan coal mine opened in 1915 but is sadly the site of Queensland’s worst mining disaster which took 75 workers lives in 1921. The derelict remains of the township and mine are eerie yet visually arresting and give an insight into how coal mines operated during that era.
Enjoy a beverage by the pool which mirrors the surrounding eucalypt landscape and prepare yourself for a spectacular dinner ahead. Dinner is an intimate seven course degustation on the edge of the weir under a blanket of flickering stars and in the shadow of lofty Mount Mulligan. The menu evokes a strong sense of the outback and is paired to Sommelier chosen wines from our reserve wine list.
Day Four starts with a relaxing morning yoga and finishes with a manifesting meditation and closing circle to wrap the last few magical days in the ancient outback. Breakfast will be served and then it will be time to check out and head back to Cairns.
